Enhance Fertility With Maca by Katie Li
There is a very potent medicinal herb that can boost the fertility of both men and women. This herb is know as maca root, or Lepidium meyenii, and grows in the Andes Mountain range in Bolivia and Peru. It is the only plant that grows in these high altitudes of 4,000 meters above sea level. The ancient Incas are known to have used this root for both food and medicine. Maca was held in high regard by the Incas as a way to improve the sexual function and help with other diseases. Now, because of the many research studies done on maca, it is acknowledged as a superfood because of its many nutritional benefits and its capacity to enhance fertility.
Taking maca as a food supplement will result in the improved functioning of your glandular system and adequate nourishment of your endocrine system. You will attain hormonal balance because your adrenal glands, thyroid glands and pituitary glands will be properly nourished. Maca induces hormonal balance but it does not produce hormones. It acts an adaptogen, which induces your body to produce the hormones that you need at the amounts that your body requires. For women, it means balancing their estrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels necessary for optimum fertilization. In men, their production of testosterone and estrogen will be just right to cause an increase in their sperm count and in healing their erectile dysfunction.
Maca is available in powder, gelatinized, pills, capsules and in tincture forms. You can use maca for fertility enhancement by starting with small dosages and increasing it as you are able to. Beginners usually take only 500 to 1,000 mg at the start. You can then increase slowly to the recommended dose, which is 3000-5000 mg per day. This is about 1 to 2 teaspoons of maca powder. In capsule form, this will take three to six capsules a day. It is better to divide your dosage three times during the day. Maca is a food and not a drug so there is no danger of taking an overdose. Even then, if your blood pressure is high or you are using a pace maker, it is better to consult a physician first before using maca for fertility purposes. It is always best to be safe, even when taking natural supplements, as some are very potent and can aggravate some existing conditions that you might have.
